  • La Fura dels Baus represents eccentricity, innovation, adaptability, rhythm, evolution, and transgression. This unique and distinctive essence led the group to become pioneers in redefining two of the most significant aspects of all dramatic arts: space and audience. They’re imagined the performance space by moving it to unconventional locations, and they transformed the audience’s role from passive to active, breaking the “fourth wall” in the process. Their constant curiosity and need to explore new artistic trends have enabled them to develop, through a process of collective creation, their own language, style, and aesthetic. This has come to be known today as the “Furero language,” which they have successfully applied to various artistic genres: performing arts, opera, cinema, and large-scale spectacles. Their ability to combine and adapt carnality and mysticism, nature and artifice, coarseness and sophistication, primitivism and technology in each of their shows has earned La Furadels Baus both international acclaim and prestige. With over 5,500 performances across four continents and more than 4.5 million live spectators, La Fura dels Baus is considered a cult group.

  • The photography of Fabrice Monteiro straddles genres: The photo-report, the fashion image and the portrait mingle and clash to better reveal a"Métis" universe in the image of the artist. Deeply and genetically transcultural, Monteiro is not surprised by cleavageor bias, but cultivates his characteristic richness by taking a closer look at the themes he tackles. In his series The Prophecy, between the terrifying visions of a world strangled by waste, and the highly stylized portraits resurrecting a forgotten history, the artist addresses questions of society, politics, religion and identity. Far from being shy; Monteiro's work is feigned and dodges brilliantly any stigmatization to let him express the full sensitivity of a nonconfrontational identity.Born in 1972 in Namur, Fabrice Monteiro grew up in Benin. After industrial engineering studies, he began a modelling career, the opportunity for him to make a first contact with the photographic medium.Transitioned behind the lens, his first experiences will naturally be in the world of fashion, but very quickly, he decides to change the record and tell another story. Fabrice lives and works in Dakar

  • “For Centro Danza Matadero, THE HERDS is a joyful cultural encounter for several reasons. We share with the project a commitment to an art form that, to truly be art, must weave together emotions, desires, utopias, cultures, countries, and languages. We also share the same vocation, as CDM’s mission is precisely to uphold the idea that dance, like Madrid, is a heart that embraces all other hearts—a home where differences can coexist, rejoice, and love. The fact that the Compañía Nacional de Danza is participating in and contributing to the project, accompanying us on this creative journey, is excellent news for dance, for Matadero, for CDM, and for our city.” - María Pagés and El Arbi El Harti Artistic Directors of CDM

  • In the years since its establishment in 2006, the Centre for Humanities Research has accomplished its goal of giving new impetus to the experiments in ideas for building a post-apartheid future that defined the University of the Western Cape in the 1980s. This has allowed it to reflect critically and affirmingly upon earlier debates about foundational concepts in the Humanities placing the arts at the heart of its inquiries. Rather than casting itself as neutral and devoid of perspective, the CHR insisted on beginning with an inquiry into the very conditions that brought the university into being under apartheid. In place of assuming the role of diagnostician, it offered a space of working through but also working out its relation to this untenable inheritance so as to offer a concept of freedom to the world. This conception has defined an ethos shaping the aesthetic and scholarly approaches of the CHR since its inception. A humanities inquiry informed by its location and history, the CHR lends itself to asking pertinent questions that have a significant impact on locating intellectual traditions in Africa in a global discourse on the contemporary human condition.

The CHR’s graduate fellowship and artist-in-residence programmes have nurtured an humanities discourse that is responsive to shaping a discourse on postapartheid freedom exploring the relationship between the human, the arts and technology in our contemporary world, especially as these relate to rapidly transforming notions of society and politics. With partnerships across and between institutions, particularly universities, schools, public

arts projects, museums, archives and art galleries, the CHR nurtures future generations of humanities graduates, educators and arts and cultural practitioners energized by transhemispheric collaborations that extend the reach of local and international humanities scholarship, as well as opportunities for arts education and cultural production beyond the institutional site of the university.

  • The Theatre Green Book began as a collective initiative by theatre-makers in the UK, but has grown to involve theatre-makers across the world.

We believe theatre has an urgent role to play in our journey to living and working sustainably, and that theatre’s own transition is best achieved through a common language, actions and standards that allow us to share and learn together. The Theatre Green Book provides that shared language.

Theatre communities work in different ways and face different challenges. The Theatre Green Book therefore operates as a loose ‘network of networks’ where each nation’s theatre community, under licence, translates and adapts the guidance to suit their way of working. But the basic approach and standards remain translatable.

The Theatre Green Book is a free resource for all theatre-makers, working at all scales.
