Jud Cornell started out as an actor and founding member of the Market Theatre in
Johannesburg, South Africa. She then pivoted, setting up an NGO that worked with the SA
trade union movement in the field of occupational health. After the 1994 transition, she
worked on national health policy, then internationally in HIV and development, first with a
UK-based NGO and then with UNESCO. She returned to SA in 2011 to establish the Nelson
Mandela School of Public Governance with two colleagues. Afterwards she circled back to
theatre, mentoring Ukwanda and now supporting THE HERDS in Cape Town.
