Billy is an award-winning South African actor, director, writer and educator known for his innovative approach to oratory storytelling and physical poetry. He is the co-founder of Theatre Duo and has earned recognition for his contributions to theatre, including the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Theatre (2022) and the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans (2024). He has written and performed critically acclaimed works such as Tswalo and has collaborated with Lara Foot & Handspring Puppet Company in Life and Times of Michael K since 2019. He is a long-time collaborator of The Willam Kentridge's Centre For The Less Good Idea. His performances span various productions, including Poet-O-Type, Waiting for Godot, Bapa, Thirst, Milk and Honey, and Katanga: January 17. As a director, his credits include KHONGOLOSE KHOMMANDING KHOMMISSARS, Rhinoceros, JustAntigone, A Place of Knowing and Mehlala. An experienced educator, Billy has taught at institutions such as the University of Witwatersrand, The Market Theatre Laboratory, and AFDA Johannesburg. His artistic practice is deeply rooted in cultural exploration, storytelling and movement.
